[SC] Regroup and Reform

Post by IsaacAran on Thu Nov 24, 2016 4:06 pm

Phillip was used to avoiding people if he wished it, that was the best part about his animal’s form. He wished he didn’t have to in a place of healing, but he’d always been resourceful. There were many high places to hide in the long hallways, and even in rooms there were always tall lamps in the rooms, or the bar lights. As long as he didn’t move too much when people came in normally he’d be safe. Often he spent a lot of time undetected but, as housekeepers checked everything, he’d be chased out.

The lighting wasn’t the best in the building, but that was more due to emergency generators providing most of the power where it was needed. Between Mutiny’s control and the defensive war efforts, the hospital got nowhere enough power to run things comfortably. Phillip noticed in his time there that doctors wrote on whatever paper they could find and the nurses spent a good deal of time rearranging lighting. Even on a slow day it was slow, and this was no slow day.

Most of the slaves and soldiers were in a form of express care because they didn’t seem to need it as much as others, however most ended up coming back with complaints of some kind whether willing or not. The business kept it so Phillip had an easier time remaining out of sight. He tried to spend as much time as he could with Apollo and Lan in their room but he always did what he could to hide when he heard other footsteps.

Their room was a bit more crowded than what would’ve been expected due to the 2 hospital beds.. A few chairs littered the far wall with the mirror, visible sink, and the inoperable TV. The walls were a sterile white and plain except for a few basic paintings used to brighten up the room. There was a nightstand for each of the boys and a small sliding table that could move for preferences or meals. The window they had gave off a view of the lower part of the city, it was nice if you liked that sort of thing.

Phillip was always uncomfortable in or around hospitals. It had next to nothing to do with how he was treated due to him being Shamed but rather always had to with the fact there wasn’t much of a smell and a dark aura permeated the place. Phillip didn’t know what other word to use, but he knew because a lot of sickness and death sat inside the place he felt uncomfortable. He’d learn to deal however. This time he was sitting in a chair between the beds looking at the pictures of a magazine. He couldn’t read by any means, which made it difficult for him to find the boys at first, but he managed and it was always nice to look at things. He smiled, happy that the boys were safe.

Apollo was sleeping soundly, his body covered in bandages and a paper gown. His hair pushed up awkwardly, not only due to the patches of hair he was now missing, but due to the operations on his head that had been done and due to being wrapped under and over bandages by jittery and busy nurses that had little time to change them; so they did these things in a hurry. Apollo had already been in out of sleep several times, but with each time he was awake his head ached and his vision was blurry. He had no idea where he was and nothing the doctors gave him relieved the amount of pain that ached from his head. Along with the damage to his head he was also wearing a cast on his right arm, and a brace on his left foot. His torso had also been wrapped in bandages. The doctors after hearing that he had been tackled through a wooden ship, by a killer whale… said that it was beyond a miracle that he would be able to function the same way he had in his prime, and at such a young age too.

A small wool blanket covered his ankles, knees, and abdomen but other parts of him looked relatively cold. He shivered a bit as a breeze rolled in which caused him to open his eyes again. He felt dizzy, as the world was spinning, and initial sense of vertigo that was common when he woke up. It would quickly pass as his initial instinct was to look to his right and see Phillip sitting in a chair, trying to read. He then looked to his left, spotting a set of crutches for him to use. He reached out to one of them and grabbed them slipped his other arm back into the sling. Sitting up, he turned his legs to the edge of the bed, careful not bang the brace on his left foot. He looked down at the floor, upset that he was about to endure a variable amount of pain all just to go to the bathroom. He closed his eyes and let his good foot hit the floor, wincing in pain as his good foot was fine but still healing from stress. He began to hobble his way to the bathroom door on his crutch, taking in the sights of the room. Philip had been visiting them from time to time, and was always welcome as far as Apollo was concerned. He hadn’t seen how the doctors chased him out.

The doctors believed there was a singular good thing about Lan as a patient, he didn’t need many (if any) pain medication. However, he needed a lot more consistent sedatives, especially if one he respected was absent. And three to four nurses. And a guard of some sort. And restraints. All in all, Lan was a frequent headache at the hospital if only because of the role he forced himself into. Luckily, Apollo was normally between missions when Lan ended up in the hospital, but on occasion the young officer himself was hurt or was busy, which normally led to a lot of extra staff being called in.

This time that wasn’t the case. Though Lan was indeed sedated, he was remaining mostly behaved. Sure the tests were still a problem because he was told by Cruveto to keep an eye on Apollo and he wasn’t exactly compliant to them at the best of times. It didn’t help that Lan was slightly awake for a few of the times that someone tried to forcibly remove Phillip and subsequently tried to do something about it. The fact he was heavily drugged and still weak from the fight with Jauraumer’s goons really didn’t help him as he stood and fell over luckily being caught. It did buy Phillip time to find another hiding spot.

Lan’s mouth would’ve been open with the last vestiges of snoring if it wasn’t wrapped tightly to keep it in place. Most of the other bandages covered scrapes or held salves that helped with muscular healing which was most of the damage that Lan suffered. He stirred opening his eyes hearing Apollo move, “Appllooo, errr uhp! Gud!” Lan murmured doing all he could to stay awake. Hopefully his bandages could be moved soon, he missed not being able to talk.

Dr. Briggs walked into the room where the bandaged patient lay. "Ah I see you have gotten him up a bit. That is a good sign." Darwin walked in a little closer to have a look at his patient. He slowly started removing a few of his bandages. He has been sedated for so long that his muscles have weakened quite a bit. "We can remove some of these bandages so that he can speak and have a little bit more motion, but..." The doctor continued to look over his body. He tilted his glasses up and looked at Lan's bones with his X-ray vision. Trying to be as gentle as possible, he continued. "Actually for the most part Lan seems to be ok. I worry that with how long he has been on bed rest, his muscles have given out a bit." Darwin looked at Apollo, "He might need some help getting around for a little while. His body won't be as up to the task anymore. At least for a couple of weeks. It is possible he might need some therapy." Darwin looked back at Lan, "This part of the recovery is all up to you and how determined you are to getting back up on your feet." He watched as Lan was still struggling to sit up and conscious.

Phillip let out a small smile as he watch Apollo move, progress and healing was always good. He hesitated on helping the boy if only because he didn’t want to make anything worse. Instead he closed the magazine and watched the boy make his way across the room, His smile widened as he watched Lan attempt to move. Looked like a lot of the drugs were still in effect which was unfortunate, but Phillip did see their purpose with the way the boy acted in this place. The giant did his best to stay out of range if he knew Lan had a test. The chaotic boy had almost unknowingly squished a hummingbird who simply wished to get away from the chaos. Never before had Phillip been so terrified for his or someone else’s well being.

The giant’s smile was washed away and replaced with a freezing form of fear. Phillip was afraid to move in case he drew attention to himself, though to be fair this doctor seemed to be a specialist of a sort. Phillip didn’t recall seeing him much, although the giant had been chased out far more times than he cared to count. When the good news was let out and the bandage removed Phillip let out a sigh of relief and then froze again, looking around to see if anyone else noticed him. Well at least everyone was recovering well.

As Apollo finally made it to the bathroom, he clicked opened a door and hobbled in, closing it behind him. He let out an enormous sigh loud enough for everyone to hear as his bladder emptied itself and a sweet sense of relief overcame him. It was a relatively childish thing to do, but this was a satisfaction like no other. From overhead he heard the sound of the doctor entering the room, fearful that he would be scolded for not calling for a nurse to assist him. He clicked open the door and peeked out, seeing the slight look of fear on Phillip’s face. He stared at him curious for but a moment and then looked to Lan to see his bandages were coming off. He hadn’t heard him before hand, but he saw his opportunity to hobble himself to bed before being caught quickly.

He flung his crutch to the corner and performed a painful hop on one leg. Despite being in pain, he still managed to remain as silent as a mouse. Which was Ironic to say the least. He sat on the bed and then turned to Philip unaware that he had not been allowed to be in their presence. He opened his mouth to speak but saw that the doctor was moving towards him now, so rather than speak he waited to be spoken too, completely Oblivious to the danger that Phillip was potentially in. Suddenly, as his mind raced about everything they had been through so far, the question of Philips medical treatment perked his interest, he had been a part of the battle, but after being pushed out by a whale and blacking out, he was sure how much damage the giant had endured. He apparently looked healthy but to have escaped all of that seemed impossible, raising an eyebrow he asked a quick question. “Were you looked at when we got here? I gave very specific orders before being put under.”

Lan’s smile was as big as a drugged up person could manage. He moved to sit up and giggled slightly at his friend who hobbled behind the doctor. So the muscle damage was also mostly taken care of, that was good. He didn’t like the sound that his muscles atrophied, he’d have to work to get those back to top shape. Luckily he bounced back quickly. “What about Apollo?” Lan’s words were slow and slurred still but much more legible. He opened his mouth a few times, to get it adjusted to moving again, causing a loud pop to echo through the room.

Lan looked over to glance at Apollo catching Phillip’s face. Had the giant been mistreated? The entire stay was a blur. Lan’s fists clenched as hard as he could manage in his state. What had happened while they were knocked out? Lan worked at the side rails of his bed when the attention slipped off of him, focusing instead on trying to slip out as quietly as possible.

Dr. Briggs looked up from his clipboard and over at Apollo, for the most part he too had recovered from most of his damage. But before he could get a word in, he noticed both of his patients distracted with something and Lan trying to escape. Darwin turned around and saw a glimpse of the intruder. "STOP! WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING!?" He blurted as a concerned doctor for his patient and as a close minded citizen. "That THING should not be in here. Where did it come from?" Darwin tried to stop his patients from leaving. He extended his arms in both directions, one to stop Lan from sneaking out the door and the other reaching for the call button to alert the rest of the staff. As a doctor he was curious about the being since they are seen as less than human, he had never seen a shamed person before. He wondered if they were truly as despicable as they say. Dr. Briggs had a good sense of ethics and believed that no one should be harmed in a hospital unless they pose a threat to others. So far, this thing... didn't pose any such threat. Darwin put down the call button cord. "I should be calling the authorities. As a care provider I am giving you one chance to persuade me not to do so. But for now he needs to be out of sight." Darwin was very conflicted with the actions he should take. He thought that no one would willingly bring in someone shamed unless they had a pretty good reason to do so. At least with these two still in recovery, he didn't feel like any harm would come from asking questions. "Whatever is going on, since you are my patients you reserve the right to patient confidentiality. No one else has to know." Darwin sat down on his stool and eagerly started twisting back and forth on the seat.

Phillip tensed up ready, to flee at a moment’s notice, and yet the end of the doctor’s reaction…. confused the giant. His attention was more drawn to Lan as the child seemed to be angry about something Phillip couldn’t begin to understand. “It’s ok Apollo, I wasn’t particularly hurt.” The giant’s voice was low and deep and strangely slurred as if this wasn’t his first language. Even if he had been hurt, he wouldn’t have received much care despite Apollo’s orders. It wasn’t necessarily bad to Phillip, just was what he came to know being born who he was.

“I came here to keep an eye on the boys,” those weren’t the right words but they fit. “Those that work for Jauraumer are mean and stubborn. I watched these two fight against a lot of his people out of what they thought was good, it’s only right that I do what I can to help them.” He carefully closed and set down the magazine he held. “I won’t be in your way doctor, but I’m not going to be away from these kind boys until I know they’re safe.” He offered a gentle smile to show he meant no harm. At least this doctor had a different set of standards than the others. One could see the tension leave Phillip’s body as the doctor relaxed around the call button. Though he was ready to, the giant didn’t want to have another chase already.

Apollo winced at the loudness of the doctor’s voice; his ear rang, and he felt a sharp pain in his head. He was sensitive to sounds all of a sudden, something he hadn’t realized thanks to the regular hushed voices. He then looked to the doctor slightly enraged, “This guy right here is no, thing… he is a hero and should be treated like one he fought in aid of folks like you and me” He interjected, only for Phillip to further explain himself in a more calm and collected manner.

After hearing the giants concern for him and Lan, he couldn’t help but be overjoyed at the sentiment. The giant had proven himself to be someone that Apollo would look up to, the kind of character that he often found in books that he read, silent, strong, and kind. Apollo himself had wished to grow up knowledgeable and reliable just like heroes of this nature. “Please let him stay… we will be much less trouble for everyone that way” He held a brief flashback going to when they were initially admitted to the hospital, he thrashed them whenever he could when hurting him with needles, or other sharp objects.

Lan’s weakened grips from the muscle issues and drugs made him far less of a threat than otherwise. He wasn’t able to operate the bed rails much less overpower the doctor. He struggled for a bit before giving up and pouting, too ashamed at his inability to do such simple things. He glared at the doctor, relaxing only when he saw the doctor begin to relax around the call button. He began to relax leaning over to reach for a cup when he caught the motion of something out of the corner of his eye.

Lan felt a violent wind come from the small woman as she stepped into the room. His instinct took over as he rushed to get up and circumvent the rails, moving to leap over it. He got irritated again at the sluggishness of his body after he slipped, expecting to move faster. Lan ran into the wall, pushing against the wall. Shortly after an explosion shook the building, forcing Lan to his knees. He looked at the small woman who entered, deciding to stare death in the eye with a smile.

It was sudden, it was subtle, it was silent. Some of the staff and a large majority of the new influx of patients turned on the doctors and remaining staff. Blood spilt in rivers through the halls, blades tore through the flesh of the unsuspecting, bullets echoed across the ears of the people within the hospital. Three figures walked through the doors; a taller woman and man and a shorter woman. They wore clothing with the Vere family crest blatantly on it’s front. The tall woman had a large bag over her shoulder, while her short counterpart wore very lightweight clothing with a plethora of short blades about her body. The man wore what seemed to be  “Aimon takes security with the first squadron, Ide needs to find the children who took out Jau, and I’ll take out the building. You have,” a pause was as the woman thought for a while, “One hour before evacuation must be started.” The short woman and tall man nodded before walking off into the chaos.

Aimon got to a nearby phone, calling the intercom and spoke in some strange language that echoes throughout the first floor. The attackers began to get focused, cutting through swaths of visitors and workers as they overwhelmed most of the current people working, cutting off most communication. Eventually he made it to the mass of security that rushed toward him. He chuckled as he popped the lid off a vial and tossed it at the group. It shattered and expanded as they began coughing after inhaling the gas that escaped. Blood began to come with the coughs and Aimon walked away, a stony look on his face as he moved to his next target.

Kyna made it to the basement with a small squadron of Vere Slaves who systematically cleared out records and storage. “Find me the support beams.” She commanded. The slaves searched and she slowly set up plastic explosives on each one, setting a universal timer for half an hour after glancing at her watch. Aimon should be finishing up soon. Hopefully Ide had finished her task. Their Deus Domina would be devastated if Ide died here. Kyna didn’t dwell on the thought but instead went back up and out the way she came, stopping at a rendezvous point.

Ide wasted no time after leaving her fellow slaves, slowing only on floors where she’d be massively outnumbered. Why she needed to go up in the first place was lost on her. Maybe simply to make sure the life left their eyes. She was only given a brief description of the subjects and their possible injuries which led her to the orthopedic ward. The Chaos hadn’t spread yet, which meant Aimon was doing his job. Good, she needed that. She remained calm, glancing in rooms looking for two boys who may be accompanied by a giant of a man. She didn’t have time for this.

Ide saw a group of three relaxing slightly and stepped in quietly, slowly drawing two daggers. She stepped in slowly, taking note that one had noticed her and seemed to sluggishly move to stop her. This was going to be far too easy. She approached the figure who was now slumped against the wall and noticed a sick smile in her victim’s eyes. She got into stance and began to move forward, surprised at the force that grabbed the back of her neck and threw her back. She merely thought “rookie mistake” as she was forcibly tossed out of the room.

Phillip had moved faster than one would think a being of his size could, grabbing the small woman and forcing her out of the room with a bellow. Hopeful she would at least be occupied for a bit he rushed back to Apollo, grabbing the boy to carry him and pulling Lan to his feet. The giant rushed out with the boys in tow. Half the advantage to being forced out so often was he had the ability to navigate this damned building.

The chaos had finally begun to spread and seemed to follow Ide’s path forcing Phillip to run the opposite direction. What was going on? He shook his head, he didn’t have time to think about that right now and focused on running to the nearest set of unoccupied stairs. He lifted Lan to sit against him opposite Apollo and began to run, long legs were good for something. He reached the door a slight smile on his face before a sharp pain ran into his calf. He stumbled but didn’t falter as he turned to see the assassin, a spider's jaw on a human face and an extended arm. Phillip watched her glance at a clock and hiss before leaving. What was going on?

The giant delayed no longer as he forced his way down the stairs, forcing himself to work fast down the stairs. He didn’t notice his breathing getting heavier or his muscles beginning to stiffen. He didn’t notice anything until he made it near the exit, panting and finally unable to stand as he forced himself to fall gently to his knees. “Get out,” he panted, setting the boys down, “get safe.” The giant gave a small smile as he forced himself back to his feet, forcing the door open to a plethora of dead and dying. How fitting. He walked out slowly, steps heavy as he motivated the boys to do the same.

Apollo felt his body jerk and bounce as Phillip carried him out of the danger zone, just barely grabbing a single crutch. The screams he heard made his eyes widen as he realized the immediate danger. The pain from the movement cause his head and world to spin, but he remained conscious. “What the hell…” As the giant made his way downstairs setting the two boys down, Apollo rested on his single crutch and began to hobble in the same direction. The exit signs were visible, and he had the goal of escape, as he was in no condition to fight back.

He looked back to the giant, fearful for his life “I will go get help…” Determined to come back with reinforcements, he quickly hobbled his way out the door, only to see that the entire hospital was now in flames. Dark smoke clouds blackened the sky as he made his way to the nearest guard station. Alerting them to what had happened. However, he could already see that help was on the way as he made his way. This, however, did not end the grim expression on his face, as he was too weak to help the friend who had saved him twice now.

Lan looked back, after the giant seemed to be in pain and memorized the look in the lady’s eyes. That color, that stare wouldn’t leave his mind for sometime. The boy didn’t understand completely. Was something happening to Phillip? He noticed the Giant was having difficulty keeping pace going down the stairs. Something wasn’t right with the giant and Lan didn’t like it at all.

The boy was the second out of the door and he noticed the Giant had much difficulty moving out. The giant was breathing far too heavily and moving far too slow. “Apollo… I don’t think he’s got time to wait.” Lan’s voice was shakey, but he didn’t have much time to change anyone’s mind. The first explosion rocked the ground, Lan backed away, quickly hesitating before seeing Phillip giving them a signal to run. The second explosion and seeing the building begin to crumble was enough for Lan to turn and force himself in the opposite direction. Someone would be there, right?

Re: [SC] Regroup and Reform

Post by LogicalMedic on Sun Jan 08, 2017 6:11 am

Let it be known that not all Draconian military were soldiers. This particular one was a medic! Or so he liked to think of himself. He was a meatball surgeon at best and working in a real hospital like this one where he was actually allowed to take his time was weird to him. He was learning though. Right now it was his break time and he was relaxing in his office (What he claimed was his office), feet propped up on the desk while he leaned back in his chair. His medical bag was open, a ball of yarn was resting

inside of it. He was currently knitting a scarf for a rather attractive individual who worked on the same floor as him. He was hoping this would be a good ice breaker, maybe he could convince them to go out for coffee with him or something. Or dinner. Or a walk. Or something. Definitely something. He was humming softly to himself, fingers nimbling working with the needles to get this scarf made. If he was going to be the judge of it, it was about half finished. He was smiling, that much could be seen if only because this was a rare moment in which he had taken his surgical mask off. The black material hung loosely around his neck, resting softly against his chest. Things were coming along so nicely. He had to decide if he was going to stay in here until he finished or if he'd finish it later. Could be a great opportunity to ask them out to dinner if he stayed in here and finished it now . . .

Fate, however, had other ideas. And boy was fate cruel.

He wasn't aware of the magnitude or the actual location of the explosion, but he heard just enough of it to freeze up. His eye twitched and his grip on the knitting needles tightened. He slipped into an almost coma like state, his eyes sort of glazing over almost as he was forced to relive memories of battles past. All that death. All his friends. The particular battle he was reliving was one where people were being blown apart beside him left and right while he tried to save as much of one person as he could. They had to drag him away from the broken pieces of the body and if they hadn't, he would have been the next to die. Why was war so . . . Tragic? It was a pity his hands were occupied. They could have reached for the key ring attached to his belt. If only he could have heard the slight jingle of the metal. He might not have had to experience this partial shift.

See, Logical had no control over that. Never cared to practice it. Really fucking should have. There was a reason he wore a surgical mask over his face almost all the time. When he had moments like this, the emotional response from him was so strong that he reacted by becoming the beast locked inside. Large, grotesque gorilla fangs began to appear in his mouth, replacing the humans ones beneath. His eyes shifted just a bit, becoming more animalistic. More of him might have had the chance to shift if not for the fact his door was kicked open. He wasn't sure who or what he saw, just that he felt like he was in immediate danger and threw the first thing that was in his reach at the person. Two knitting needles flew through the air and impaled the person's eyes. He saw the body twitch a couple times, but that was it. He had enough presence of mind after that to realize there was something going on. He tugged the mask up over his face and grabbed his bag. He needed . . . He needed to figure out what was going on here.

Of course stepping outside his office told him exactly what was going on and he more or less just walked into two more assailants. Either fate was making up for being cruel, or it was sheer coincidence. Two large chunks of ceiling crushed the two would be killers into puddles of red mush and the medic just sort of stared for a moment. Had to keep going. Had to keep moving. The build was on fire, it was falling apart. He should . . . He should be looking for survivors. People to help. He needed to get moving.

How he manage to survive as long as he did in this crumbling building was a mystery. However, there was at least one upside. As bizarre as it seemed to be, there was at least one survivor he had come across. Although he was fucking huge. Rumors were enough to tell him who this probably was and sure, being Draconian he hesitated. But his honor as a medical professional came first. He bit his lip, unsure as how to even approach this. he was still feeling the effects of his flashback from earlier so talking with these huge fucking teeth was going to be annoying, but whatever.

"Sir," He called out to him, "Sir, are you already? We need to get out of here. Please, let me help you. I can treat your wounds for you, should you have any, when we get to a safer location." He was completely unsure if touching him was even a good idea so he once more hesitated. "Please, we have to hurry."

Phillip couldn’t help a low chuckle as he caught the...doctor’s? Words. His jaw ached to move but the giant fought through it. “I don’t think I’m moving far friend.” Phillip vaguely pointed to his still bleeding leg. “I was stabbed. Something is different about it. I had been stabbed before and my body never react-...” It was beginning to take a lot of effort to remain standing, much less anything else.

What the giant didn’t know at this point was that his size alone is what had saved him to this point. The venom was taking effect at a slower rate than someone smaller than him. The fact the venom had to travel further to his heart was a blessing and a curse. The hard stiffening of his muscles slowly reaching up to his chest was agonizing, but it still had some time to reach his heart, if the medic could keep it pumping and get the right anti-venom.

The Giant tried to smile as he caught the worried look in the man’s face. He took rough, sluggish, and stiff steps away from the building. The second explosion rocked the area, forcing Phillip back to his knees. The third triggered early and half the building fell, landing close enough to kick dust to the duo but far enough away to avoid rubble landing on them. Phillip wasn’t going to get back up easily. Not without help.

At first glance, he hadn't caught sight of the leg injury. No, he’d been more focused on other things and that was probably why he looked so surprised when he finally did see it. He listened to what else the other had to say. It sounded like he’d been poisoned, but he couldn’t be sure from what. There were options here, but he had to choose the right one. Even the wrong one could buy them more time than what they would have previously had, but the side effects . . . He wanted to bite his lip but these stupid fucking . . . Why did he have to react like this under emotional duress? He took a deep breath and tried to remain calm; fix the giant now, work on getting them out of here next. From there, well he’d just have to figure it out. So he shifted to his knees and put his medical bag down on the ground and started to dig through it.

“I’m going to have to apologize. This is . . .” He trailed off as if he was unsure what to say. This was more of a situation that he was used to and yet he found himself hesitating as he dug through the bag. “I don’t know what this is going to do to you. I’m not sure what the poison or venom or whatever it is that they used to coat their blade with when they stabbed you. Even if I did know, I don’t know that I could retrieve the right vial in this mess to help you, but . . .” Again, he trailed off, tugging a small vial and a needle out of his bag. “This is an experimental universal anti-venom the lab here is working on. I’m helping develop it. I’ve never gotten to field test it before though. This isn’t my ideal way to test these things, but if you’ll allow me to try it . . .”

This time it wasn’t his fault his voice vanished with the wind. The explosions he heard next rocked him to his core, triggering another round of flashbacks. More of him began to morph and shift into that of an animal, but he had enough presence of mind to com back to reality quicker this time. He was with a patient. He had to try and help him to the best of his current ability. Which at this point was starting to get difficult. He could see this giant of a man. A quick glance from around them let him know they were alone. What he perceived to be was them alone. He was almost positive that the building collapsing would have stopped people from directly following them. But that didn’t stop him from seeing people that weren’t there.

He stared off into a space that was next to the other, watching figments from his imagination bring in so many wounded men. Legs blown off, arms missing. One of the stretches only had a torso. Another was just assorted body parts. And there he was, just a medic trying to piece the ones still alive back together. Realistically, he wasn’t even supposed to be performing surgery. This was more or less something that got thrown into his lap when one of the field hospitals was short staffed and they knew he had medical knowledge. He remembered losing it when he saw someone he had known come in as only a head and a partial torso.

“S-sorry,’ Muttered the medic as he managed to stand. He hadn’t realized that he’d fallen. Must have been when the building collapsed. He shifted again, dragging his medical bag back over to the giant. “Like I said, its experimental and I don’t even know if it works. But it, it might help.” Consent would have normally been something he waited for, but he didn’t feel like they had enough time for that. So he just prayed this worked and stabbed the needle into the man. He waited for all the anti-venom to leave before he took it away. Needed a second needle, had to find another one. “You’re so big so you’re going to need a second dose, I think. Just, let me find the other needle in here . . .”

Phillip flinched mentally, his body was starting to have issues responding to simple things at this point, as the needle pierced his skin. It was a brief moment but the giant felt the effects on his body begin to slow. He forced himself up, pulling at the knife still lodged in his leg. Phillip grit his teeth, not hard to do at this part, and pulled it out taking the chance to bleed out opposed to have venom fighting whatever the doctor was putting in him. Besides, a bandage could always be fashioned later. “L-let’s get goin’” Phillip managed as he got to his feet.

It felt like pushing his way through a maze of needles but Phillip managed to at least make it to safety, the explosions now merely a low if not faint rumble due to height and distance of the charges. Phillip could move no further though and collapsed, exhausted and lightheaded. The world swam around him and weather that was due to the blood loss or the chemicals in his blood remained to be seen. “My name is Phillip,” the giant managed as he forced himself into a position for the medic to do his work.

He couldn’t really think of anything else to say. He paused for a moment, looking in the direction the boys took off. “You didn’t… happen to see you boys walking away did you?” Phillip groaned out low, at least it was easier to move. He’d have to thank this man later. “For that matter do you know what happened?”

Here again, the medic hadn't really been paying as close attention as he normally would have. He only noticed the knife sticking out of the man's leg when he watched him pull it out. If there hadn't been those damned explosions setting him off, he might have been able to do his job properly. He started digging through his beg more quickly, trying to locate another needle as well as some bandages. He would have protested about the other moving, but that was when he heard some more things that sounded like explosions and he just didn't want to deal with those so he hurried himself after the rather large individual.

Was it panic that the man had collapsed or was it his medical professionalism that had him hurrying to the other's side once they were a decent distance away? He could at least focus more on his job now so that was good. He once more knelt beside the man and started digging into the bag again. He was muttering about his yarn being in the way, not that that mattered much anymore. His knitting needles were lodged in someone's head that he was pretty sure was stuck in the door. Though, whether that door was still standing or not was a mystery. He had to take it out and once he did, looking became a lot easier.

"Hello, Phillip," Mused the medic who had now found what he was looking for. "I'm Logical." He glanced up at him as he started another dose of the anti-venom. "And yes, before you ask, that's my actual name. My parents thought they were funny." He made sure to pick a better spot to inject the giant this time, hoping that that would at least stop the poison in his system. He didn't want to overdose or underdose him, but honestly he had no idea just how potent his experimental concotion was. "If you experience any, uh, adverse symptoms, please let me know. I'll see what I can do for you. For now, let me see your leg." Not that he would have given him much choice on the matter.

"I haven't seen much of anyone actually walking away from this other than the two of us to be honest." He had tugged some peroxide out of his bag, moving to clean the wound. He wasn't sure if he warned him that it would sting or not though. Didn't seem to matter given the current situation though. "Honestly, I cannot tell you what happened. I was in my office, knitting a scarf. I felt the explosions rock the building and I'm going to assume would-be assassins tried to jump me. All three of them are dead. Then I sort of just found you and . . . That's all I know."

He shifted a bit more once he had the wound clean, reaching for a regular needle and some suture to sew up the wound a litte bit. He really wished he could have been inside the building, this would have been so much cleaner to do. He mumbled apology after apology because he was sure he wasn't being very careful. Normally he would have been, but those goddamn explosions had triggered his PTSD. Not to mention he was partial shifted in places so he was struggling to maintain focus. But he got the wound sewed up. He wrapped it up in a bandage next, just to make sure that it was okay. He began to put everything back in the bag and looked up at the man.

"Well, that'll have to do for now. Not my best work, but it'll hold until I can get you better help."

To be fair, after the stiffness and aching, the poke of the second needle and the stinging liquid never bothered Phillip and likely would never bother him again. “Nice to meet you,” the giant said between breaths. He gave out a small smile when he heard about the boys. “Then they weren’t foolish enough to turn back. I was afraid they would have. Big hearts those children, if oftentimes rash.” Phillip appreciated the doctor asking though there was no need.

The giant’s brow furrowed however when mention was made about getting him to a safer area. “No I’m afraid I can’t accept that.” The giant shook his head with a smile, “Others need your help far more than me. I’ll be fine once I figure out how to convince my body to move again.” He laughed at his slight joke. Phillip was already feeling much better, just really tired. Though this medic was kind enough to stay near, the giant knew his skills would be best put to use elsewhere. Phillip came up with an idea. “I need just a moment, but maybe I could help you clear the way as we look for more survivors. Just a moment is all I need.” He gave a tired smile.

It was nice to know that at least two of the children that had previously been in that building had made it out alive. But had anyone else? Was anyone else so lucky? He shifted just a little bit and began to stand up. He had calmed down enough that it seemed he was returning to the appearance of a normal human. He tugged his surgical mask down and felt his face. Yep, normal human now. Thank God for small miracles. Now, what else was it that the giant was saying? Something about looking for others?

"Alright, Phillip." The medic nodded and stretched. He'd been on his knees for longer than what he would have liked patching the other up. Had they been properly located, this wouldn't have been an issue. Though, one would have thought this was something Logical would have been used to all things considered. "We'll both rest here for a bit, catch our breath. I need to relax and stop shaking so its no big deal. Take as much time as you need and we'l see if we can find anyone else together."

When most of the pain subsided and the giant couldn’t hear any more rumbles, Phillip stood. “That should be long enough for what we need to do.” He smiled to the medic and offered a hand before limping back to ground zero. “Forgive me but I haven’t had to do this much. Perhaps you should lead and tell me what you need.”

Phillip set to work moving all the rubble he could, unburying all he could. For some time he believed there wasn’t much reason to go on, Many of the first bodies were parts he hoped were complete or warm corpses. The giant found more than a few limbs that seemed to be torn or bitten off, the thought making him uncomfortable. It wasn’t too long however before he found the first survivor, With a renewed vigor, Phillip moved the survivor to a safe place, leaving it with Logical before returning to the ruins to find more. He worked hard, bringing about 10 more survivors to the medic before Draconian Forces showed up. It didn’t take them long to drive Phillip away. He tossed a glance and smile at the Medic as he was pushed away, murmuring a thanks before walking away.
